Newell Award

Barbara and King Newell established the Newell Award in 1997 with the purpose of helping our Centre survive during a time when the government was drastically reducing financial support for the Arts. King Newell thought that setting this example would encourage others to donate money so that the ICAC would continue to survive and thrive.  At the same time, he would give public recognition to individuals who have helped make the Centre such a successful enterprise. He felt that such individuals are of inestimable value to our community.  The ICAC continues this legacy by annually recognizing an individual who has had a positive impact on the Centre.

2025 Newell Award Winner: Jeff Lounsbury

As a longtime member of the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre and its pottery group, Jeff Lounsbury has made contributions for more than 40 years. Jeff draws on his decades of involvement and experience in the Centre in his role as pottery representative on the Board. In the pottery area, Jeff heads the mission-critical kiln committee, passing on his knowledge of kiln maintenance, and teaching others to load and unload the kilns, with the associated record-keeping. He continually monitors kiln function, troubleshoots or arranges repairs, and has coordinated the purchase and installation of new kilns.

A gifted artist and inspiring teacher, he is generous with ideas, help, and encouragement. Jeff’s leadership of the potters is characterized by thoughtful problem-solving and consideration for the needs of all. His calm temperament and kindness contribute significantly to the Centre’s harmony and atmosphere of creativity.
