December/January 2012 Newsletter

From the Chair
We have had an exciting start to our new term as a board of directors: we have an inspiring list of new courses to offer for our winter/spring program, our Deck the Halls Christmas Sale was very successful, and we are planning many special events for our anniversary year.
One exciting event planned for Feb.10-11 is a presentation and workshop by potter Reid Flock. Friday night will be a wine and cheese reception, open to all. Reid will present a slide show and discussion on his work. We are hoping members from all art groups will attend this wonderful night. Saturday, Reid will present a workshop for potters.
Sunday Jan.8th marks a very important day for ICAC. This is the Newell Award presentation to Isabel Ward, a very deserving recipient of this honour.  Please mark this date and plan to come to celebrate with Isabel.
The Board is encouraging all members to give some thought to fees for next year. We welcome your opinions on a fee increase, how much the increase should be, studio fee for those of us who use the studio, and the toonie tin being continued as a user-based fee.  Please send your comments, in writing, to any member of the board.
On behalf of the board of directors, I wish everyone a happy holiday season with your family and friends.

  From the Potters’ Studio
The roster of pottery courses offered in the new program is amazing-we’ll be a very busy group with lots of variety for everyone.
As an anniversary special, our introduction to Pottery course is for non-members, and once that is completed, there are 2 more courses offered for new potters.
Reid Flock is coming to the Centre!!!
Have a look at your enclosed invite for this very special reception and workshop and sign up fast!
Quilters
A huge thank you to all the Monday Quilters for creating the fabulous raffle quilt “The House”, and to all the ICAC quilters and members  for selling and buying tickets on this outstanding work of art!

The winner of “The House”  quilt was Sharon Crawford-MacKay.  2767 tickets  were sold of the 3000 printed! Total proceeds were $4,751.00

Deck the Halls
A big shout out to the Deck the Halls Christmas Committee and to all the volunteers that made this sale so successful.  A lot of very hard work went into this event.  Comments from visitors were extremely positive and sales still continue in the mini version of the sale in the exhibition gallery.

In Victoria Park on Dec. 16th there will be a fireworks display for the community and the Centre is taking the opportunity to open from 6-8 pm for the spectators to view and shop at the Mini Christmas Sale.

Art Rental
All entries for the rental exhibition must be delivered by Feb 1st to be installed by the opening date Feb.5. All art must be ready to hang, with labels attached.

Those who have art in the current rental in the back gallery may remove it when delivering new art for the exhibition.
When  the new exhibition closes Feb. 26  those pieces will be moved to the back gallery available for rental for (approx.) the next 6 months. If you do not wish to do so, simply  remove it.  It is the artists’ responsibility to record all information accurately in the rental binder provided. Remember also to fill out a rental information sheet, also in the binder, and attach to the back of each painting.

The new Feature Artist will be Deb Riopelle. Painters considering being the next feature artist, please  notify Linda Trowell 519-425-1510 or lindasart62@yahoo.ca

To promote the art rental program, before and during the Feb. Show, new handbills will be distributed in the downtown business area. Copies will also be available at the Art Centre for members to distribute to family and friends.
Please do all you can to promote this important program.
